NHSRCL to finalise routes of Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train soon

Hyderabad, India (Metro Rail Today): The Hyderabad-Mumbai High Speed Rail corridor project gets momentum with the latest social and environment impact surveys and public consultation meetings in the states concerned for preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Imagine reaching Mumbai within three hours from Hyderabad. This could be possible in the near future, with the Central Government planning to introduce a bullet train between Mumbai and Hyderabad. In fact, authorities have already prepared a feasibility report and survey is on between Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The 650 km corridor passes through Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy and Sangareddy districts in Telangana state, Karnataka’s Kalburagi (Gulbarga) and Maharashtra’s Thane, Raigad, Pune and Solapur districts. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is carrying out India's first bullet train connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad had held public consultation meetings with stakeholders at Thane in Maharashtra on September 27,2021.

Sushma Gaur (official spokesperson of  NHSRCL ) told media, 

 we are currently on the job of preparing the DPR for the Hyderabad-Mumbai HSR project. We held meetings with stakeholders over SIA and EIA on Monday in Thane. We will hopefully submit the DPR early next year to the government.

If one were to take a regular train from Hyderabad to Mumbai, it would take 14 hours to cover nearly 650 km of distance but the bullet train will just take three hours. Drones will be used for the survey of the land required for the project, which costs approximately Rs 1.08 crore as per the earlier estimations.

An official of Railway Board told the media,

we proposed the project in 2019 and wanted to complete it by 2023. But the project was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, we have resumed our work. We have set a 2024-25 target to complete this project.

NHSRCL deputy general manager N K Patil made a detailed presentation on the project in the presence of Thane Deputy Collector Prashant Suryavanshi and other officials. A total of 1200 hectares of land will be required in the Thane district.
