Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is to launch operations of Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7 in January 2022. People were hoping these line to run in 2021 but it seems they will have to wait a bit more for these lines. MMRDA has postponed their plan to launch these lines for the public from October 2021 to January 2022.
MMRDA, earlier set deadline of December 2019 to begin the operations of metro trains on Line 2A and 7 but due to covid-19 pandemic they postponed the operation. Due to pandemic, a large number of migrants evacuated which caused delay in the project.
MMRDA started a trial run on a 20km stretch Of Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7 on May 31,2021. The trial run was between Dahanukarwadi and Aarey stations. These stations runs along the Link Road and Western Express Highway in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai. The trail began in the presence of Uddav Thackrey (Chief Minister, Maharashtra) , Ajit Pawar (Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra) and BalaSaheb Thorat (Revenue Minister, Maharashtra).
Mumbai Currently serves a single 11.4km Metro Line. The line connects Versova to Ghatkopar Via Andheri. There is no other Metro Line in Mumbai other than the Versova - Ghatkopar metro line.
SVR Srinivas, Metropolitan Commissioner said:
A team from Research Design and Standard Organization (RDSO Lucknow) will begin inspections from next week. The Commissioner Of Railway Safety (CRS) can begin his inspection of line 7 in October.
The 18.6 Km Mumbai Metro line 2A will connect Dahisar to DN Nagar with 17 elevated stations. The construction cost of these stations are likely to be around Rs 6,400 Crores. 16.5 Km Mumbai Metro line 7 will connect Dahisar (East) to Andheri with 13 elevated stations. The Construction cost of these stations are around Rs 6,200 Crores.
