Ghaziabad, India (Metro Rail Today): The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is constructing dedicated driveways at four stations on its priority section to minimize traffic congestion. NCRTC is all set to extend the facility to all the stations along the 82.15km under construction Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
The semi-high speed rail corridor which will be connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meeruat is one of the the three rapid- rail corridor planned under phase 1 of the Regional Rapid Transit System Project of the NCRTC. It is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 30,724 crore. Ghaziabad will have eight RRTS stations. The name of the stations are Sahibabad, New Bus Adda, Guldhar, Duhai, Murad Nagar, Modinagar South and Modinagar North.
NCRTC officials said,
The RRTS passes through busy stretches and to offer hassle-free commuting up to its stations, dedicated driveways have been planned based on experiences at Metro stations. Work on dedicated driveways at stations on a 17-km priority section has already commenced. The driveways will serve as easy pick-up and drop facilities at RRTS stations. The concept is similar to the airports where vehicles stop and after dropping or picking up passengers merges with the main road with regular traffic. The arrangement is expected to allow commuters to avoid traffic jams at RRTS stations.
According to officials, 70.5 km stretch of the total 82.15 km will be on elevated platforms and remaining 11.5 km will be underground.
