Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train may fail to meet its deadline of 2023. The development work for India's first high speed train passage has acquired force in Gujarat, yet is stuck in Maharashtra because of resistance to land securing. To speed up the land property work in Maharashtra, Raosaheb Danve (Minister of Rail,Coal and Mines) will meet National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), Western Railway and collectors of Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts in Mumbai on Wednesday.
“I will be discussing the bullet train project at length on Wednesday with all officials. All concerns will be discussed. The bullet train project is targeted to improve development in the area and it will help the state" Said Raosaheb Danve on Tuesday.
With 30% land purchase in Maharashtra by NHSRCL, the construction work may extend from its deadline. The body recently welcomed tenders for plan and development of track for twofold fast rail line among Vadodara and Sabarmati depot in Gujarat and has begun on-ground development work in the state. Common work contracts for the development of five rail line stations, Sabarmati terminal, development of 28 steel spans getting over rail route lines, waterways, roadways and street structures have been granted.
A senior Official Of NHSRCL said:
In Gujarat, nearly 90% of the land has been handed over to the contractors for the construction work and the work is going on in full swing,Construction work can only begin once we have 90% of the land in our possession. Efforts are on to get the required land before construction-related contracts can be awarded in Maharashtra.
Uddhav Thackeray (Chief Minister of Maharshtra) had earlier asked If if the bullet train project was of any benefit to the state and the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) appeared non- committal on the project after coming to power.

Initially, when Rajdhani Express between Mumbai and Delhi was supposed to start, people thought it would not be profitable and there was hesitancy. The train is now the most popular train on the route. Politics over bullet train should be kept aside by the state and central government and the focus should be overall development of both the commercial hubs and the country. Construction work in Maharashtra should be started soon.
Of the 508.17km of the length of construction, 155.76km is in Maharashtra, 384.04km is in Gujarat and 4.3km is in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The assessed cost of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad shot train project is Rs110,000 crore, of which Rs 88,000 crore will be supported from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The undertaking has a consummation cutoff time of 2023. According to NHSRCL, in general 75% of the land needed for the Corridor has been procured for the undertaking, of which 28% is in Maharashtra. 97% of land acquisition has been done in Gujarat and 100% in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
