HCC-KEC JV emerged as lowest bidder in a contract of Chennai Metro Rail phase 2

: Good news for local commuters of Chennai. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has opened the financial bid for the Contract package C5- ECV- 03 on September 5, 2021. The Package is for the construction of 11.61 km long  corridor 5 of phase 2 Chennai Metro Rail Project. The line will connect Puzhuthivakkam to Sholinganallur. The partnership of Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and KEC International Limited ( KEC JV) has came out as bidder.

The Financial of each bidder is:

HCC - KEC JV - Rs 1,122.02 Crores (L1)
L&T Limited - Rs 1,149.39 Crores (L2)
NCC Limited - Rs 1,290.70 Crores (L3)

The area of work includes construction of above the ground viaduct of around 11.61 km long from Ch: 33710 m to 45320 m between Puzhuthivakkam Metro station and upto Elcot Metro Station. Under this package the total of 11 elavated metro stations will be constructed at  Madipakkam, Kilkattalai, Echamgadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam, Koot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcot. This work is part of Metro Corridor 5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase -2.

Tender for this work was launched in 2021 and the technical bids were opened in June 2021.These bids are now sent to tender committee for the evaluation. If everything goes well , HCC- KEC JV will be given the contract for construction work. The work should be done in 3 years from the date of letter of acceptance.

The HCC- KEC JV also got the contract worth Rs 1,147 Crores for the construction of 8km elevated viaducts and nine metro stations under phase -2 of Chennai Rail Project.
