UP Metro commences Machine installation at Kanpur Metro's Polytechnic Depot

 


Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The civil construction work of the 9 km long Priority Corridor of Kanpur Metro is almost in its final stage and along with the preparation of the Trial Run of Metro on the Priority Corridor, the work of Metro Depot is also being executed in full swing by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). Out of the 7 most important machines of 'Depot Machinery ', the first machine has been installed in the metro depot according to a statement by UPMRC.

"The work of installing the 7 most important and largest machines of 'Depot Machinery ' in the Kanpur Metro Polytechnic Depot has started with the installation of ‘Fully Automatic CNC Under Floor Pit Wheel Lathe Machine’. Other major machines will also come by the end of this month, which will be installed in the depot itself", the statement said. 

What is the function of the Floor Pit Wheel Lathe Machine ?

The wheels of Metro Trains get unbalanced while continuously moving on the track and braking, the wheels of the Trains are brought back to the balanced state by using a Floor Pit Wheel Lathe Machine.

The description of the other 6 machines is as follows:

1. Fully Automatic Synchronized Pit Jack Machine (for lifting and lowering of coaches for maintenance)

2. Fully Automatic Synchronized Mobile Jack (Same function as of Pit Jack Machine but can be moved from one place to another)

3. Bogie Turn Table (for shifting bogies from one track to other track)

4. Automatic Train Washing Plant (For automatic washing of Metro coaches)

5. Electric Bogie Shunter (for shunting of Metro trains from one track to another)

6. Re-railing & Rescue Vehicle (In case Metro coach derails on main line or in depot, it is used to keep the coach back on track).

Work has been progressing very fast on the Kanpur metro project. The project is being developed under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation also known as UPMRC with its headquarters in Lucknow.
