Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): The Indian Railways' consultancy firm RITES Ltd has submitted the revised detailed project report (DPR) of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2 to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) in 2017. The same has been finalized by CMRL in December 2018.
According to the DPR, a total of three corridors having total length of 118.9 kilometres and 128 stations have been proposed. The details of these three proposed corridors under the Phase 2 are as under:-
Corridor 3: Madhavaram to SIPCOT
The corridor 3 will connect Madhavaram to SIPCOT with 50 metro stations. The total length of corridor will be 45.8 km (elevated 19.1 km, underground 26.7 km).
Corridor 4: Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass
The corridor 4 will connect Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass with 30 metro stations. The total length of corridor will be 26.1 km (elevated 16.0 km, underground 10.1 km).
Corridor 5: Madhavaram to Sholinganallur
The corridor 5 will connect Madhavaram to Sholinganallur with 48 metro stations. The total length of corridor will be 47.0 km (elevated 41.2 km, underground 5.8 km).
The construction cost of project at December 2018 prices is estimated at Rs. 43,126 Crore. The cost of land and R&R is estimated at Rs 9,884 Crore. The total cost of project including land and R&R, is estimated at Rs 53,011 Crore. The Central and State Taxes & duties amounts to Rs 7,325 Crore. Thus, the total cost of the project works out to be Rs 60,335 Crore at December 2018 price level.
A total of three new train maintenance depots has been planned at Madhavaram, SIPCOT and Ponnamallee.
